Amy Bradley's Camper Quilt blocks

My friend, Venita, and I are working on completing Amy Bradley's Camper Quilt. We fell in love with the pattern at first sight and decided to do our own personal Block of the Month, only we do it whenever we decided to get together and work on each block. The pattern has eight regular blocks and two extra blocks. We have done five of the regular blocks. This is my most recent one done:

Below is the front of the pattern. As you can see, Amy used a theme to her blocks so that they all looked alike. I was not sure how I was going with mine until I had completed two of them. I decided to make each one a little different depending upon the background fabric I chose.

The first one I did had a flamingo in it. I love this particular one. Because of the flamingo, I chose a background of palm trees and flamingos and then put my own flamingo by the camper.

The fourth one I did is below. I chose bicycles as my background fabric. On an outing after making this block, I found a fat quarter at a fabric shop that had bicycles in it. Bought it, brought it home and fussy cut a bike out and appliqued it next to the camper. Cute, I think.

For some reason, I did not take the other two camper blocks alone. I did take a picture to show Venita what the four I had done looked together. That was a concern for me since they are each so independent from the others.

The top two are the others I have not already shown here. I like them both. One is a forest setting background; the other has umbrellas, which the pattern had, too.

Each of the blocks will have fabric from the camper of that block sashing it. Then I have purchased (but have not received yet) fabric that has mountains, forests, rivers trucks, cars and campers throughout. I ordered it on line and should be receiving it soon. That fabric will be the sashing and border around all the blocks.

I am also making the block shown on the cover (see the picture of the pattern cover) of a family camping. There is also another block of an older couple camping. I will do that one, too. Plus I am going to make a block of a campground near a lake or river that has only tents. I have to design that one myself.

I am so excited to complete this quilt. Venita is getting ready to go off on her vacation, so I guess I will work on the block that I have to design while she is gone.

Block exchange with Rivercity Guild

At the September meeting, several of the guild members are going to exchange "winter" blocks for a unique block exchange. Here are the two I came up with.

The above block was made using Amy Bradley Designs quilt pattern snowday. . .sewday. Too cute.

The snow sled block pattern I made up myself. It came out like I remember my sled looking.

I am excited to see what the other blocks will look like. I will post pictures after the meeting on September 18th.

Blog site with cute Dog or Cat BOM free patterns

I found a great blog that is currently running a free BOM of simple dog applique. They are really cute. Depending upon the fabric chosen to make the dogs, this BOM will be really adorable and one that could easily be done and finished.

Wildflower Rhapsody Finished Quilt Top

March was the last block mail out for our Wildflower Rhapsody BOM. Today I received the following e-mail from one of the participants:

Hello Peggy,
I just wanted to thank you for running this Wildflower BOM club. I never would have attempted this by myself.

We are leaving for a 6 week trip this week, and I wanted to get this done so that I wouldn't be worrying about having to get more fabric. This top came out really well and I learned a lot by completing it.

I've attached some pictures of the finished top. When I get back, I'll take it to our local LAQ'er to get it quilted.

Wildflower Rhapsody BOM for December

Apologies are at hand. I went to the post office yesterday to retrieve my mail. In my PO Box was a note to pick up excessive mail. Upon getting to the clerk, which took 20 minutes, they handed me a box with all the envelopes with the BOM block in it that was mailed out last Saturday. Sheesh!

My mailer posted too little postage on each and every envelope. It was totally my fault. I purchased new envelopes. They were a smidgeon over the limit for the price that charged for it. So this morning, I added more postage to them all. They will go back to the post office today to be mailed out.

My total apologies to each of you for being so late.

December block for Wildflower Rhapsody BOM

Those who are receiving the blocks for the Wildflower Rhapsody did not receive a picture of the completed block this month. Sorry about that. Sometimes life gets too busy to sew and that is what happened last month. Here is December's beautiful block:

There are only three more blocks to be mailed out. You will receive one in January, February and March and then it is up to you to finish the quilt up. I hope you are enjoying doing this fantastic quilt.

August Wildflower Rhapsody BOM Pictures

I guess everyone is or has been on vacation. I had not received many pictures of finished block, but they are starting to come in now. Below are Renea A and Gloria D's blocks. If you have finished your block, send me a picture before midnight on Wednesday this week. Just need to have it before the drawing is held on the 1st of September. Remember the incentive award is a pattern to make Lori Holt's applique pattern Quilter's World. A fun and unique pattern. We sell it for $22 on our website. A Quilter's Garden Block of the Month (BOM)

Beehive Quilts is offering a beautiful Block of the Month (BOM) starting in January 2012. This BOM offers several pieced blocks and appliquéd vine to really give it a garden look.

The fabrics used will come from a collection by Lydia Quigley of the Rabbit Factory and sold by Clothworks Textiles. You can see that collection at http://www.clothworkstextiles.com/collection.asp?ID=302.

As we have done in the past we are trying to keep the costs down for you, the quilter. This beautiful quilt will be just $18.95 per month, pattern included. The normal cost for the pattern is $18.

To sign up for this BOM, just go to Beehive Quilts and pay $25 for the signup fee, which locks you into being part of this beautiful BOM. This is a non-refundable fee. Then on January 1st (or 2nd), you will be charged the $12 for the pattern and $18.95 for the first block for a total of $30.95. On the first of each month you will be charged only $18.95 for that month’s block. All blocks will be mailed no later than the 10th of each month. It is a 12 month program and the last block will be sent in December 2012.

Annoucement of Two New Block of the Month Programs

Beehive Quilts is proud to announce that two new BOM programs will be starting January 2012.

One is Lori Holt's design called Apron Club. It will be a quilt done in 1930s reproduction fabrics with a white background fabric.

The other BOM called A Quilter's Garden from the Rabbit Factory and fabric from Clothworks.

BOM Incentive Winner for July's Block

Congratulations goes out to Rene A. She is the winner of the July BOM incentive. She will receive a kit for a Doggie wall hanging.

August's incentive is a copy of Lori Holt's quilt pattern called Quilter's World. This pattern is an applique pattern. To go along with the pattern, the winner will also receive a package of Lite Steam-A-Seam to assist in the applique process if they want to do the iron on and stitch on the edge applique.

The kit includes the panel and the fabric above, plus a simple gray fabric for sashing. It makes into a cute wall hanging. I made one and once it is quilted I will post it to this blog. Hopefully I will get that done before the end of the July.

Renea A's June block

I must admit that I have not done my June block yet. I have been working on a Civil War era BOM that Elisa and I are taking through Beverly's Fabrics in Fair Oaks CA. I was not sure I wanted to make this quilt, but I think it is going to turn out to be beautiful. We are half way through with six blocks done.

We are using A Path to the Civil War, aurelia's Journey Quilt by Sarah Maxwell and Dolores Smith. I love this book as it has history along with the patterns. It even has paper templates in the back, though I am not using them. I just use the easy cutting directions in each block pattern. The following are the six blocks I have completed. I cannot wait to see what comes next. Since there are 44 different blocks to choose from, it is always exciting to get the new packet of material and the notice of which block we will be doing. So far they have all be fairly easy. Even the flying geese block.
