River City Guild Quilt Show 2015

Tomorrow, Friday November 20th, is the start of the River City Quilt Guild's annual quilt show. Someone asked me last year why I never submit quilts to our show. So this year I submitted six quilts. Two to be judged. Four just for display. I also entered seven quilts for the silent auction. I hope they all sell. I entered ten silent auction quilts and sold all but one. But I priced them dirt cheap. These are priced low but not cheap. We will see.

I am the guild's historian. I went over yesterday to turn in my quilts and took pictures before set up began.

Chairs had been brought in. Tape was being put down to mark the vendor spaces. Other than that it was empty.

This morning I was there around 10:30.

Racks are going up. Quilts were starting to be put out on tables. A special kudos to David Carter, who lays all this out. This year was a challenge for him. The guild had over 300 quilts entered into the show.

It is going to be a great show. If you can come by and see it. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Sunday it closes at 4 p.m. It is held at the Scottish Rites Center at 6151 H Street Sacramento CA. Parking is free and they have a huge parking lot for us. Entry is only $7.

Busy, busy, busy

I have been so busy that my blog has gone by the wayside for a while. Our quilt guild, the River City Quilt Guild in Sacramento, is getting ready for their annual show. I have submitted some quilts that I had to finish or sew hanging sleeves on the back of. I still have three more sleeves to sew. I also participate in our Country Store at the show. I have been going through my stash and deciding what fabric and patterns I am willing to part with. Some of the fabric I have had since I closed my shop down five years ago. I think it is time to say goodbye. If I were going to use it, I would have. So I have been pricing all that and now need to tag it all. The show is next week afterall! Yipes. I have to get busy. I will post pictures when I am done.

Oh and to those of you who follow Beehive Quilts on Facebook, I cannot get into it. Facebook as determined I am a business and cannot have a stand alone Facebook account. They said I had to link it to my personal account. I tried to do that and it doesn't work. So if you are trying to contact me through that Facebook page, I am not seeing it as I am locked out of it. I am trying to work with Facebook about this, but they are hard to work with as they want me to just do what they say and don't have contact info anywhere on their site. I will keep trying.

Auburn CA 2012 Quilt Guild Show

Love going to guild's quilt shows. Auburn's is always a joy to go to. The talent in this guild is tremendous. Plus so many of my friends from different places I have lived in this area go to this show that it is great fun. I love to take pictures of the quilts on display. I take only a few. I would take more but there are so many people there that sometimes it is hard to get a clear picture without taking someone else in it.

I must say though that I was disappointed that I did not win a raffle basket. They have some great ones to choose from. Oh well. My $10 went to a good cause anyway.

I have made all these blocks and am in process of putting the sashing around each one (6 done so far). I am so excited I am so far on this quilt. I just love it. Since I have so many projects that HAVE to be finished, I may not get this one done for a while. But it is on my design way calling me to constantly. I will post a picture when I finish mine.

I especially loved this one because I thought it was a great way to portray travel pictures. Gil and I are planning traveling around the US and Canada starting next spring. I will keep this design in mind when we are out and about.

This is just one of several that were on the stage. They were all the same pattern, but they were all done with different fabrics. It must have been a guild challenge or maybe a group. They were all gorgeous. My daughter loved this one the best, so it is the one I took a picture of. You can seen the one behind it used more subdued colors. Just as beautiful.

I love this pattern. I have it for sale on the website. There is a lot of embroidery but little piecing. I need to start this if I want to have it done in time for the holidays this year. I am realistically looking at 2013 instead, I think. Too many projects.

I had to take this one. My son had an Iguana that was over 6 feet long named Nando. He would love to have this quilt. It is an original design by the quilter.



I collect lighthouses, so I tend to gravitate to anything seaside or lighthouse related. Love this one. It was a very peaceful setting.



Beautiful embroidered Halloween quilt. We carry this on our website. It will be a someday to do quilt.

This was done with colored thread on black material. I just loved this. Plus it is Halloween, which is always my favorite.

Hey, anything with a bee or a hive I will be drawn to. Don't you love it?

This is the first quilt I have seen using the large template. I had just bought one at a vendor booth and was excited to see one done up.

Bunnies are a great draw. Plus I have a lot of veggie and fruit fat quarters that I need to use someway. This would be a great design to use some in.

Another iguana. Great quilt if you love lizards, which I do.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing these quilts. All are thought provoking and makes me want to get busy on some of my "want to do" list. Of course that is after I finish my UFOs and special projects that I have running.

National Quilting Day

Quilters have their own day. What a wonderful situation. We have an excuse to everyone around us that March 19th is our official day to do nothing except sit down and quilt! The 19th is this coming Saturday!

I already know what I am going to do. There are two quilt shows in our area. I am going to go see those. One is in Fairfield CA. It is North Wind Quilters Guild Cover Story XIV Quilt Show. The second one is the Valley Quilt Guild's Bloomin' Fun! It is their 28th annual quilt show. It also is March 19th and 20th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Tracy Brookshier at Rivercity Quilt Guild

Third Tuesday of every month is Sacramento's River City Quilt Guild general meeting. I am a member and love to go. This is a big quilt guild. I do not know the exact number of members, but I know it is over 200. Great guild and they will be having a great quilt show in November. Anyway last night they had as their guest speaker Tracy Brookshier. She is a wonderful quilt designer and a great speaker. She was invited to have one of her quilts shown at a quilt show in Japan. She brought back slides of some of the wonderful quilts shown there and some of the sites of where she was. I tried to find a website that showed the festival after the fact. All I found was the original before website http://www.tokyo-dome.co.jp/e/quilt/.

Then she showed just a smidgen of her quilts that she has made. They are really fantastic. She was teaching a class today, but I failed to sign up for it. She will be teaching her Japanese Jigsaw pattern. It looks complicated. She said it is not. I have heard others say it really is not. You do have to purchase a special template to make it, though.

That class was taught at our store when it was open. Everyone who took the class loved it. Many have made several of the pattern. Good job, Tracy. Loved your presentation, too.

Guild in Woodland

There is going to be a quilt guild in Woodland! How great is this going to be!

Come to a let's-get-together-and-discuss-the-guild meeting on Sunday, December 6th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. It will be on the 3rd floor of the Cranston Building. If you enter in the pass-through of the building either from the front or the back, there is an elevator to take you there. Whew! No stairs to climb.
